The subtle finishes in some of these program covers were more obvious at the time than they are now. Attentive Gothamites would have caught the headlights of an approaching subway which were reflected on the tiles in the Dartmouth half of the mosaic. The teams' names were rendered in this manner in tribute to the style of the mosaic patterns which were on all of the New York City subway stops, and the glow of the headlight was the perfect final touch. One of master illustrator Lon Keller's finest works.
