Notre Dame was up against a powerful and unbeaten Navy eleven that day, but All-American Paul Hornung put an end to any Middie dreams of keeping that streak alive. Before a record-breaking crowd of 59,475 fans, the future HOF quarterback dominated the field from start to finish, scoring one touchdown, passing for another, and gathering in two interceptions to thwart the Middies' offense. It was the finest afternoon of his college career, and a glorious day for the Irish.
